Before you start, make a list of the top 5 complaints you have with your sales department….then come up with a translation for each………here is what I mean.

If a sales rep isn’t onboarding a customer with proper paperwork, instead of saying “I need their credit application today or else”, try presenting it as a benefit…..something like…..”Can you get me that credit application today, I have a feeling we might be able to approve them for more credit than they are asking for”.

Do you have a sales rep that actively counters your collection efforts? Instead of saying “Don’t negotiate payment dates with the customer!”, try reverse psychology …..something like….”I am trying to avoid your client going on credit hold, can you help get them to pay by next week so we can keep their credit line open?”

The goal is to have your sales reps be teammates, not rivals and to do that, you need to SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE!
