Today’s Credit Play isss…. Turning Voicemails Into Your Secret Weapon – Part 5: THE VOICEMAIL BOX IS FULL – TIME TO ESCALATE
As they say, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it’s probably a duck. And while I’m all for giving people the benefit of the doubt, when it comes to a full voicemail box, that duck needs immediate action.
On average, it takes 30 undeleted messages to fill your voicemail box, and those messages don’t fill themselves by accident. There are two symptoms that cause a voicemail box to fill up, and it’s CRITICAL you figure out which one is happening.
The first symptom is TIME OFF. If someone was on vacation for two weeks or had a family emergency, this would certainly explain why their voicemail box is full. After you confirm this, give them a week to get caught up, and then leave another message.
The second symptom is SURRENDER. Two things cause someone to throw their hands up in despair. They have either given up the fight, or they’re purposely dodging any communication attempts. When they surrender, that should be your green flag to immediately escalate!
Your first escalation action is to go as high up on the chain as possible and make a call. Whether that’s the CFO, Owner President…inform them of the full mailbox, and briefly explain your concerns. Then ask this one question and listen carefully to their response……“Is Bob’s full mailbox an isolated issue with one bad employee, or is this a symptom of larger issues looming with your company?” If they dodge your question, or ask you to call someone else, or worst-case scenario…. they confirm the company is in trouble…. your next call needs to be to your collection agency.
That wraps up our series on turning voicemails into your secret weapon. Next up, TEN PART series on “The Art of the Payment Plan” and you don’t want to miss that one!
