Today’s Credit Play isss…. Turning Voicemails Into Your Secret Weapon – Part 4: HOW EACH MESSAGE TIGHTENS THE CONSEQUENCE
You’ve left thousands of voicemails in your career…. You’ve got your script, it’s clean, professional and informative …but I need to ask you…..What’s the difference between your second message and your fourth message? If you’re like most people, the only difference between messages is your level of frustration…..and unfortunately, frustration levels don’t affect the outcome.
Voicemails are like car alarms…. the first time it goes off it startles you, but after the third time in a week, it’s just background noise. So your voicemails aren’t treated like background noise, there are two things you need to implement moving forward….ESCALATION, and CONSEQUENCES, and escalation without consequences is like a little boy who cried wolf.
We covered messages 1 and 2 in previous videos so let’s move onto message #3 where you START to escalate with consequences. Something like “This is now my third message on this subject…I will be forwarding this to my manager along with a recommendation that your account goes on credit hold if I don’t receive a call back by next Wednesday”
Message #4 is where you INCREASE escalation and consequences. Something like, “If this isn’t resolved, within 7 days, it will be forwarded to our CFO to review all possible remedies”
Message #5 is where you DRAW A LINE IN THE SAND. Something like, “If your balance is not resolved in 72 hours, your account will be forwarded to VeriCore. At that point, per the terms of your credit agreement, you will be responsible to pay for the costs of collection”.
With the right tone, proper escalation and increasing consequences, the odds of your messages getting returned along with a positive outcome are infinitely greater!
Coming up in the last part of our series on turning voicemails into your secret weapon, we’ll talk about the dreaded “full mailbox”. We will go over why it might not be bad, and also why it might be time to escalate!
