Remember, the key to connecting with anyone is to talk to them the way THEY need to be talked to, not how YOU want to talk to them. Don’t forget my all-time Coach Corey communication rule which isss…. “If you know what the animal is…. you know what to feed it!”
The last of the 4 main personality types is also an “introvert”. Not because they’re shy, but because they’re quiet, kind, supportive … AND passive! We call this personality type…. the AMIABLE! At their core, an AMIABLE is someone who avoids conflict, and hates disappointing others over all else!
AMIABLE personalities are also often sincere, steady, and ethical….. BUT…here’s the challenge: when you ask them for a commitment, AMIABLE’S will often say YES … even when they’re not sure they can deliver.
AMIABLES are easy to spot because they are always polite and agreeable; they often say things like….”Ummmm ok, I can probably do that” …or a “semi-commitment” comment like….. “Well….yeah…. that should be fine” …. Or even a “try hard” comment like… “I will give it a shot and at least try do my best.” Notice the VAGUE language? …. THAT’S your clue! While an AMIABLE won’t outright refuse you….they often struggle with concrete commitments because they really don’t like letting people down.
When dealing with an AMIABLE, you need to make it SAFE for them to be honest with you! Always say things like…. “I know it can get busy around here.. so if that doesn’t work for you, just give me a timeline that does!” The biggest mistake when dealing with an AMIABLE is being TOO AGGRESSIVE! If you push too hard, they’ll only just tell you what you want to hear because they don’t like any sort of confrontation.
If you’re patient, kind, and understanding….. AMIABLE’S become loyal, reliable partners for a very long time!
